The Facilities Manager provides the highest level onsite leadership of a team. In this exciting and fast-paced role, you will split accountability for an 880 bed, 2M sq ft facility, with 5 buildings, and up to 32 outlying clinics. Providing support to the largest facility in the Indianapolis metro area (St Vincent Health), this is a high visibility, high profile position within the Medxcel Facilities Managementorganization!

The dynamic and assertive Manager will interact regularly with senior leadership in guiding the services provided to the assigned Ministry to the highest level of success. With a methodical, proactive approach to leadership, the facilitation of regulatory compliance in accordance with Joint Commission standards will be an essential deliverable for this position.

Facilities Management Support

  • Lead a team of 56 full-time staff, including 3 supervisors as well as occasional outside contractors, in the maintenance and repair of systems typically found in a hospital facility, including HVAC, refrigeration, electrical and electronic, and plumbing; in a manner that assures a high degree of reliability and safety.
  • Manage the efforts to maintain the professional public image and aesthetically pleasing appearance of the building(s) themselves.
  • Coordinate maintenance and project work with department heads and medical personnel as required.
  • Maintain records of completed planned and corrective maintenance tasks for the purposes of compliance and risk management
  • Manage the purchase of supplies, replacement parts, etc. in a productive and compliant manner.
  • Oversee grounds maintenance, including lawn, parking lot, driveways, sidewalks, signage, lighting etc. with special attention given to the front and emergency entrances / canopy areas.
  • Maintain the safe operation of the facility during projects of any size.
  • Interview, select, train, and evaluate department staff. Develop appropriate succession plans for ongoing career development of assigned staff.
  • Enforce safety and quality standards for the department.
  • Maintain the professional appearance of all department spaces, regardless of their public exposure.
  • Implement and maintain compliance with maintenance related policies and procedures of the company
  • Responsible for any other duty that may be assigned from time to time and any other activities required to maintain the efficacious, safe, comfortable and visually pleasing use of the ministry's facility for the purposes of diagnosing and treating patients.
  • Manage financial assets as directed.


  • Direct participation in one or more audits performed by Joint Commission.
  • Implement and/or maintain Medxcel's standard policies and procedures for accreditation and regulatory compliance.
  • Ultimately responsible for the completion of all compliance-related PM, inspections, tests, and recordkeeping.
  • Join and participate in safety and other relevant committees.
  • Follow policies and procedures of Medxcel's regulatory and compliance support group.


Education and Work Experience

  • Experience with Joint Commission facility preparation activities and processes to include training of staff and delegating duties to ensure successful audit outcomes
  • In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission audit procedures, having participated in a leadership capacity in one or more audits
  • Background within a Large Campus, multi-site facility is essential to the role
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or management required (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in healthcare/hospital facilities management
  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) certification preferred or other recognized Facility Management certification
  • Travel:
    20% (some overnight required)
