Ronan French Bulldog Adult Male in Indianapolis, Indiana

My story
Meet Ronan!

This special guy is an approximately 4 year old French Bulldog who came to Helping Paws last year from the shelter.

He was unable to use his back legs, so we rushed him to see a specialist, but unfortunately, the damage to his spinal cord was too severe to surgically repair.

But that doesn't stop him from living his best life! The perfect home for Ronan would require a few special things.

He can not urinate on his own, so he needs someone to express his bladder 3-4 times per day to avoid bladder infections.

This is something that is done externally by pushing on both sides of his abdomen and is pretty easy once you learn how to do it!

He also can not control his bowels, so he will need to wear a diaper and have it changed when he makes a mess.

Even with the best care, bladder and urinary tract infections can be common with dogs like this, so that is something a potential adopter will need to keep an eye out for and be willing and able to take him to the vet when needed. He also deals with an issue that a lot of bulldogs do, which is allergies.

We haven't had him tested to find out what exactly he is allergic to, but he is on fish based food and is on a regiment of Cytopoint injections and occasionally Apoquel during a flare up.

We also give him a bath weekly with medicated shampoo to keep his skin calm.He does know how to use his wheelchair and will zoom around in it for awhile, but he also is just as happy dragging himself around.

He will come with drag bags, which protect his legs from the ground when he does drag.

His foster family also does warm water therapy in the tub where he can walk around and take some pressure off his back for awhile.

He is currently doing that two to three times a week.Ronan loves to cuddle and wants nothing more than to be at your feet or next to you when watching TV or going to bed.

He gets along with other dogs and cats, although we have noticed he gets kind of big for his britches with big dogs.

LOL

He also enjoys kids, but does have some aggression over food that would need to be watched with little ones.

We also need to mention that he is an Instagram star, so check out his page - @ronan_the_wonder_frenchie . Adoption fee for Ronan is $250 and he comes fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped.
